Spotify’s new skip button, Google’s optional watermarks from AI-generated media, and YouTube making it harder for creators to earn money

Spotify’s New Skip Button

Spotify is testing a podcast skip feature that makes it easier for some Premium users to jump past ads, promotions, and filler content, while ads sold directly by Spotify remain protected from the feature. For marketers, the change could put more pressure on direct-sold podcast ads and make platform-controlled inventory more valuable, so podcast strategy may need to account for whether listeners can actually skip the message.

Google’s Optional Watermarks from AI-Generated Media

Google will let users remove visible watermarks from AI-generated images, videos, and songs across tools including Gemini and Flow, while invisible Synth-ID watermarks and C2PA metadata remain in place. For marketers, cleaner AI-generated creative becomes more practical for professional campaigns, but transparency and brand standards still need to stay part of the workflow.

YouTube Making it Harder for Creators to Earn Money

Starting in early 2027, YouTube will double key monetization thresholds, requiring creators to reach 8,000 qualified watch hours over 12 months or 20 million qualified Shorts views over 90 days, along with 1,000 subscribers. For marketers, a higher barrier to monetization could concentrate more influence among established creators and make proven audiences even more valuable for sponsorships, partnerships, and paid video campaigns.
